Using PULMICORT FLEXHALER

Sara was a little nervous at first when her doctor prescribed PULMICORT FLEXHALER. After all, she had never used an inhaler before. But the doctor assured her it was as easy as 1-2-3:

  1. Prime the inhaler. You only need to do this the first time you use a new PULMICORT FLEXHALER.

  2. Load a dose. Holding the inhaler in an upright position, twist the brown grip as far as it will go in one direction, then twist it all the way back in the other direction.

  3. Inhale the dose. Turn away from the inhaler and breathe out. Then place the mouthpiece in your mouth, close your lips around it, and inhale deeply.

The doctor also gave Sara’s mother an instruction sheet that includes detailed directions, helpful tips and important safety information.

Indication and Important Safety Information

PULMICORT FLEXHALER™ (budesonide inhalation powder, 90 mcg & 180 mcg), an inhaled corticosteroid, is used for the maintenance treatment of asthma in adults and children 6 years or older.

PULMICORT FLEXHALER is not a bronchodilator and should NOT be used to treat an acute asthma attack If you are switching to PULMICORT FLEXHALER from an oral corticosteroid, follow your doctor's instructions to avoid health risks when you stop using oral corticosteroids.

Avoid exposure to infections such as chicken pox and measles. Tell your doctor immediately if exposed. Inhaled corticosteroids may cause a reduction in growth rate. The long-term effect on final adult height is unknown.

The most commonly reported side effects in clinical trials include inflammation of the nose and throat, nasal congestion, sore throat, nasal allergies, and viral upper respiratory tract infection.
